Why Compost?
Many people wonder why they should compost or what the benefits are of using compost instead of chemical fertilizers. There are many reasons, including:

No matter what your soil type, growing conditions, or what you're growing, compost improves your soil and helps make your garden healthier.
How to use Better Earth
New Lawns
Apply BetterEarth Premium Organic Compost at approximately one bag (40#) per 30 square feet. Rake or till into existing soil. Broadcast seed on surface, roll, then water often until grass reaches 2 inches.
Established Lawns
Once or twice a year apply BetterEarth Premium Organic Compost at approximately one bag (40#) per 50 square feet (1/4" to 1/2" depth), and water thoroughly.
New Gardens
Apply BetterEarth Premium Organic Compost at approximately one bag (40#) per 10 square feet. Till to a depth of about 6".
Established Gardens
Apply BetterEarth Premium Organic Compost to a depth of about 2" and rake or hoe into the soil, if possible.
Planting Trees & Shrubs
Dig a hole 1/3 wider and 1/3 deeper than the root ball. Mix one part BetterEarth Premium Organic Compost to one or two parts loosened soil. Backfill hole to allow top of root ball to rest at ground level. Firm down soil and fill remainder of hole, being careful to pack tightly to prevent air pockets. Form a slight basin to catch rainwater for the young roots. Water thoroughly.
Potted Plants
Carefully remove plant from old container, disturbing roots as little as possible. Put BetterEarth Premium Organic Compost in the bottom of the container, then carefully place plant in the container. Fill the rest of the container, pressing firmly to prevent air pockets. Water thoroughly
